Chilli? Burritos? Tacos? I never know what to call Mexican food…

I’ve been getting in to Mexican food lately (especially after eating at the excellent Los Amates), but having never been to Mexico, I don’t have any real conception of what makes “authentic” Mexican food or even what you are supposed to call things.

Our local gourmet supermaket now stocks these delicious tinned chiptole chillies in “adobo” (a spicy, smoky sauce) – really great to use in any kind of chilli mix.

I made a chilli concoction with pork mince, yellow capsicum, tomato paste, chipotle and jalepeno chillies, onion, coriander, lime juice and red beans.

And flour tortillas….

And a salsa of chopped tomato, red capsicum, yellow capsicum, coriander, spring onion, lime and salt.

I don’t know if it was real Mexican, but it tasted pretty good…
