Spaghetti and meatballs

We saw The Hayloft Project’s re-imagining of Thyestes last week, which was excellent. They managed to take an old Greek tragedy (Greek tragedy being all about dramatic irony), and through some very clever scripting and staging made it even more ironic than the original. I mention it here because it included a very memorable scene involving meatballs and some ingredients that I won’t mention. One of the best pieces of theatre I’ve seen in a long time, possibly ever.

I made my meatballs with some veal mince, bread, milk, egg, cooked onion, parmesan, bacon and herbs, and braised them slowly in a basic tomato sauce with some red wine and some of my frozen stock.

I should have put some parsley in the mix, but otherwise I was pretty happy with the result – and there was plenty left over to freeze for another night.
